Who was Demeter?

Demeter was the goddess of the harvest. Zeus was her brother.  There were many temples in ancient Greece dedicated to Demeter. Nearly everyone, gods and mortals, did their best to keep Demeter happy. If Demeter did not do her job, the crops would die and everyone would starve.
